One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The book I chose for my book report was One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey. I chose this book because the plot summary sounded interesting and I like to read books connecting to human behavior. So far, I've liked the book a lot. I'm inside the mind of someone inside a mental hospital, seeing it through their eyes. It shows how dysfunctional it seems to the patients, how they see it as cruel. One thing that stood out to me was the treatments the doctors used, and how it was acceptable back then. They would use electro-therapy shock and other things on the patients. Something that surprised me was McMurphy and how he's betting on Miss Ratched and trying to loosen her up and stir up as much trouble as possible. This would be the exact opposite of what I would do. Standing up to the doctors and nurses and showing aggression could get you shock therapy. I would try to stay away from that, yet McMurphy goes straight toward it. I'm only about one third through the book so far, and I'm eager to read about the rest.
